Kylie Wears BODYAMR

Everyone's favourite pop princess made an appearance on Wednesday night at the Face of Tous party in London. Dolled up in Tous jewellery, a pair of super glam, towering heels by YSL and a beautiful, peach toned dress by BODYAMR, Ms Minogue looked sleek, chic and relaxed. Finished off with tousled locks and some killer earrings, Kylie pulled off BODYAMR's draped, oversized gown to perfection.

They attracted the attention of many influential buyers at the exhibition and their new collection will now be stocked in Selfridges, Liberty London and Barneys New York.

Arts University College Bournemouth BA Graduate Show Report

Mel Austin

 Anna Tiesen

Rachel Brown

Robyn Egan

Mariya Shulga

Being one of the many alumni coming from Bournemouth I have an added interested in seeing the designers graduate collections. Yesterday I had the chance to catch up with university friends and past lecturers and seeing some beautiful clothing was an added bonus.

A personal favourite was Mel Austin’s collection consisting of a beautiful colour palette - purple shades, creams and greens in light feminine fabrics. Cream textured neck ruffs and jackets layered over shredded loose fringe knitwear, silk slip dresses and sheer lilac body stockings completed the look.

Breaking up the show to a rapturous applause was a childrenswear collection by Anna Tiesen. Playful balloons and rose prints in pastels colours, quilted jackets with sheepskin hoods as well as cute styling with silk headscarves and puss in boots style sack bags on sticks.

The millinery showcased for the AUCB was the most memorable, shaggy fur helmets from Rachel Browne, felt feathers headpieces from Grace Warland, bowler style skull caps from Mariya Shulga and a British flag turban from Sarah Larkin.

Kingston University - Close Up With Nadja Penfold

Nadja Penfold

Unconstrained by the formula of designing for a particular season, the huge spectrum of styles presented during GFW is spectacular but can become somewhat overwhelming when served in such large doses.

For this reason, with some of the cleanest lines and sharpest cuts, the Kingston show stood out against the madness. As a rule the collections were uniformly concise and resolved, making it difficult to pick just one favorite.

One graduate more than worthy of a mention however is Nadja Penfold and her well structured, effortless silhouettes. I particularly admired a boxed pocket jumpsuit and opaque off white shift, which I later discovered was heavily embellished with an almost invisible Braille.

When I caught up with Nadja she explained;

“My collection is inspired by the neurological condition Synaesthesia, a rare condition affecting sensory neurons. It distorts the senses, the result; hearing colors, seeing sounds and tasting touch. By incorporating Braille into my work I am to stimulate the senses used in the absence of sight”
Penfold has achieved a rare subtlety, attention to detail and precise balance of concept and design. Her pieces are at once wearable and conceptual, it is no surprise this deserving collection went forth to Wednesday’s Gala show.

Congratulations to Vauxhall Fashion Scout designers Alice Palmer and Jade Kang!

The two designers were selected by John Galliano as finalists for this year’s Fashion Fringe. The finalists were revealed at The Ivy on Friday night and the celebratory party included fellow Vauxhall Fashion Scout star and Merit Award winner William Tempest.

Alice Palmer was part of our first ever Ones To Watch show three seasons ago. This show propelled her into the industry, securing two stand alone catwalk shows in the following seasons. Palmer also exhibited at the Fashion Scout’s Paris Showroom last season and was a big hit with the buyers. Alice told Fashion Scout today “Being a finalist in Fashion Fringe still doesn’t feel real but I am sure once we start the intensive mentoring programme it will be. We met with John Galliano and he was such a lovely guy!”

Jang Kang first launched his label with Vauxhall Fashion Scout with a solo catwalk show. Showing twice at Fashion Scout Jade regularly attended our Mentoring Evenings which he says helped him build his business.

We are so proud of our designers and that we were able to help them reach towards their dreams. Their success shows that designers that continue to learn and grow can get what they want.

Northumbria Graduate Show Report

Naomi New
Hannah Casen Seawright
Julie Perry
Faye Chamberlain

My usual Sundays contain eating what I want, meeting friends and sleeping in between the two, but yesterday I attended the first day of Graduate Fashion Week. After soaking up the atmosphere of the stands and speaking with the enthusiastic graduates I was looking forward to the Northumbria show.

First up was Naomi New’s collection; an array of oversized jewel and mirror encrusted shoulder padded body’s finished off with a mix of hair fringing. A selection of perfect Gaga outfits, white studded leather jackets and high waisted trousers were respective of a 90’s Gianni Versace.

In contrast Hannah Casen Seawright’s Victorian inspired vintage collection looked like it was created by a designer with years of experience. An elegant silhouette of silk blouses, embroidered circle skirts, paper bag waist trousers styled with bracers, leather bags and a gorgeous black origami swan headpiece.

Julie Perry offered sharp jumpsuits and a well cut grey peg leg boiler suit, all caged in a metal mecanno style sculpture. Transformer style design in which with one pull the model could turn upside down wings into sculptured shoulders.

Textiles dominated the show with incredible techno prints designed by Ludmila Maida and bold patterns and pleats from Nathalie Murray. Faye Chamberlain was my personal favourite, providing a welcome break from the muted hues. Six vivid outfits graced the catwalk in bright kaleidoscopic graphic prints. Hips were accentuated with nipped in waist dresses and trousers covered wedged shoes exaggerating the length of the leg, all finished off with gold metallic and crystal surface decoration.

All in all a varied spectrum of mens, womenswear, textile and knitwear design has me excited for the busy week ahead. Graduate Fashion Week continues until Wednesday night with a Gala show at which the winners of the Best Menswear, Best Womenswear and the River Island £20,000 Gold Award will be announced.

The chair of this year’s judging panel is the Italian designer, Alberta Ferretti
