Designer Spotlight: Merit Award Winner - Phoebe English

Central Saint Martin’s graduate, Phoebe English has been propelled into the fashion spotlight since graduating in 2011. Initially catching the sights of industry-insiders with her Autumn/Winter 2011 collection of black rubber and faux-hair, our previous ‘One to Watch’ is now the recipient of our Autumn/Winter ’12 Merit Award.

Since obtaining incredible stockist- London’s Dover Street Market, English has attracted a swarm of media attention in the form of both mainstream fashion publications- i-D and AnOther magazine, and cult-status bloggers- the infamous Susie Bubble.

Experimenting with organic separates, there is a beautiful simplicity to English’s contrasting material selection and experimental treatment techniques. With the L’Oreal Professional Creative, Chloe, and now with the VFS Merit Award behind her and with a CV boasting experience from prestigious fashion brands such as John Galiano and Mr Pearl, it’s only reasonable to expect great things from the young designer.

Phoebe English's collection will be shown at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, The Freemasons Hall on Friday 17th at 18.30.

Sneak- Peak: Asger Juel Larsen at Copenhagen Fashion Week

Asger Juel Larsen closed the second day of Copenhagen Fashion Week in style..

Last week, the Denmark born fashion designer showed his AW12/13 collection at Copenhagen Fashion Week. Larsen, who is known for his gothic androgyny and mixture of historical and futuristic influences presents a collection of  intoxicating medleys- a blend of the past and the future, taking inspiration from historical events and fusing it into a futuristic sci-fi sphere.

We don’t want to spoil what is to come from the designer at this February's LFW, but  there are some truly amazing things to come... we were blown away by Asger’s use of asymmetrical zips, maroon velvets and tailored trews teamed with sharp collars. Not forgetting the Russian fur hats beautifully balanced upon the model’s heads.

Winner of VFS’s Men’s One to Watch two seasons ago, Asger Juel Larsen is returning to Vauxhall Fashion Scout this season in collaboration with fellow OTW winner T.Lipop at London Fashion Week at Freemason’s Hall, Covent Garden on Wednesday 22nd February at 6.45pm.

Designer Spotlight: Florian Jayet

Florian Jayet as a designer came to fruition after an unexpected start pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, however an interest sparked by his familial ties to fashion led the French-born designer down a different route altogether.

Inspired by his tailoress Grandmother, at age twenty-two, Jayet took to the arts- choosing to study History of Art (BA) at Paris’ first school of fashion, ESMOD. Since graduating, the young designer came to London, where he refined his craft in the studios of Alexander McQueen and Eymeric François.

Using his practical skill and biologist background as a foundation, Jayet explores nature as an avenue for inspiration; with recent collections being bold, fitted and highly structured, alike the exoskeletons of insects.

Using his cultured upbringing as an influence in his work, Florian often finds inspiration from world cultures and civilisations for his collections. The self-described surrealist focuses primarily on structure and the use of unconventional materials as a means of using clothing to serve as a powerful projection of the “Modern Woman’s” societal role.

Join us at Freemasons Hall on Saturday 18th at 12.30 to see Jayet’s Autumn/ Winter 12 presentation.
